CPLD as a power supply control??!!

I am a final sem, Instrumentation technology student from BMSCE, Bangalore.
I have been offered internship in an automotive company for building a telematics control unit.I came across a cpld block in the hardware diagram for catering to various power supply requirements to the peripherals.Can anyone please explain how this is realized?
