Cornell University Undergrads Develop Human Tetris using ATmega644 8-bit microcontroller

Two undergrad students, Adam Papamarcos & Kerran Flanagan from Cornell University have developed a project that has capability to rival Microsoft's ambitious Project Natal.

The students have created a real time object tracking & shape recognition device and a game called 'Human Tetris' using ATmega644 8-bit microcontroller. The project uses and analog to digital converter as input device to sample high-resolution grayscale image from a video camera. This grayscale image is used to track objects & identify shapes that contrast the background.

The project takes its inspiration from Project Natal which offers a controller free gaming & entertainment experience. Sony has come up with a similar initiative called 'Move' but it uses the approach used by Nintendo's WII. However, the Cornell University project uses single sensor device (with camera & headphone) placed by the television.

Its very interesting to note that the overall project cost is $64.Source: #-Link-Snipped-#&#-Link-Snipped-#
