Connection of motor to supply

today i saw an induction motor which is connected in delta/star connection to the supply (written on nameplate).generally i have seen nameplates with star/delta. can anyone explain what is the difference between the two connections & why & in which cases these two type connections are used for motors ?

    there is no difference between star and delta connected motors line voltages and line current and line currents for STAR line current supplied to the motor is same and for DELTA line voltage is same
