The Chinese government is ready for its first space rendezvous as it plans space docking between two of its unmanned vehicles this year. A senior government official informed the press about the plans of the Chinese premier to become a gain some prominence in the aerospace and astronomy domains. The space docking is an initial step in the mega project of setting up a space station.
Yang Liwei, Chinaâs first astronaut who travelled to space in 2003, declared about next stages of China's human spaceflight program during a visit Beijingâs Space city, a research and development facility which is generally out of bounds for public. The first phase of the mission is expected to be completed by the end of 2011. As per the plans, it will involve Shenzhou 8 rocket and the Tiangong 1 module. The Tiangong module (meaning Celestial Palace in Mandarin) is a huge 8 ton orbiter. It is commissioned for a two year stint. During this period it will establish contact and meet the manned Shenzhou 9 and 10 rockets, having a team of astronauts on board.
#-Link-Snipped-#Once this space rendezvous gets done successfully, the next target of the Chinese Government is to construct and launch a space laboratory by 2016 and finally setting up a space station by the end of 2020. The launching of the space station in the orbit will facilitate long term stays in the space. It wil help the Chinese conquer yet another frontier and get it included amongst the elite group of nations that have their own space station. China's space station will comprise of a core module, two space labs, a manned rocket and a cargo ship. It will be a lightweight at 60 ton, compared with 137 ton Russian station Mir and the International Space Station (ISS) weighing a mammoth 419 ton.
Yang Liwei, now a major general in the Chinese army and head of the manned space flight program for China told the press that China is ready to co operate with other nations for the peaceful use of space. Besides this, the Chinese are also planning for a lunar mission to unravel the mysteries of this natural satellite of the Earth.
