Chevy Cruze Gets GM's Diesel Engine; Launch In 2013

When Toyota designed Lexus and Prius, the company was working on developing a completely new car. They were the cars responsible for the complete makeover for the conservative Japanese company.#-Link-Snipped-#, following the footsteps of Toyota, is up for something big. The American auto company is nowadays busy in designing a new engine which is expected to define efficiency of engine to the core.

The #-Link-Snipped-# engineering crew from Torino, Italy can be seen putting joint efforts with their counterparts at Pontiac, Michigan in developing a new Diesel engine for #-Link-Snipped-#. While their idea is to develop an efficient engine, it may mean that they will construct an efficient version drawing parallels with Hybrid. With the new engine, GM's is concentrating its energy in manufacturing an engine best in diesel category.

Speaking about the current 2.0 liter engine for Cruze, it is subjected to rigorous tests. The team wants to ensure that it sustains in any environment. To have an insight into the details of tests conducted, the engineering team is testing the new power-plant in variety of climatic conditions ranging from -40 Deg C to 70 Deg C. The main focus of the team will be to keep noise and vibration to a minimum, even if the vehicle is driven at a height of 3000m above sea level.

The American automaker has experimented with many engines over the years. This time, the company plans to develop an efficient engine but with drawbacks associated with previous engines resolved. The changes have hence reflected in the diesel engine project. It features precise direct injection fuel control and an efficient particulate pollution filtration system.

If we look at the present day market, the vehicles fitted with Ford's downsized 1.0 Liter Eco boost engines are becoming popular. However, GM is banking on the rising need of higher fuel economies and the increase in Gasoline prices. The company feels that even though the US market for Diesel engines is small, they have bright prospects to increase their market share. With its announcement of developing an engine for Chevrolet Cruze, GM has raised everyone's expectations. It will be launched in 2013 and only then will we have the glimpse of technology employed by GM's power-train engineers. Sure enough, Cruze engine will trigger a market shift from Gasoline to Diesel fed automobiles.
