In a major strategic decision on Friday, Chevrolet announced the increase in production of its Chevrolet volt. A total of $100 Million investment is expected from General Motors Co. in engine production plants in Bay and Flint city. It would add 80 jobs.

Company is looking to increase the production to capture market and to provide jobs. The jobs provided by the decision can sustain for two years. This strategic decision could mean a major boost in its engine production capabilities. The immediate beneficiary would be the best seller ‘Chevrolet Cruze compact’ and ‘Chevrolet Volt’ which was introduced last year. The Canadian car of the year, Chevrolet Cruze has a four cylinder engine with a 136 Hp power generation.

This year General Motors is shelling out a lot of money to save its jobs and workers. Prior to this news GM CEO Dan Akerson announced a package of $2 billion to create or save about 4,000 jobs in 17 GM facilities. Last year General Motors is trying to increase its man power in both engine production centers in Flint city and Bay City. Earlier Chevrolet had declared pumping out $12.7 million for increasing production in its Bay City capacity. A total production of 10,000 units is projected as believed by GM. General Motors spokesperson had reportedly said in March this year. The number expected to reach an all time high in May.

The other, Chevrolet cruze is the best selling and a tough competing model for its rivals. It is actually a replacement for GM’s earlier models like Chevrolet Cobalt, G5 and Cavalier. If you have ever driven any ‘Sunfire’ and Ion then you will feel that Cruze is much similar to them. Simply speaking, the car is equipped with all modern facilities that one can think of. It has got a deep glove box, a GPS Unit, and a secondary storage area above of the dashboard. It has also got side pockets on front and back doors. This may not be an innovation but it seems that how much GM cares about its vehicles and Customer service. The price of Cruze varies in the range of $14,995 to $24,780, based upon the local taxation policies while that of Volt starts around US$41000 excluding all taxes.

Christopher Shannon, Mayor of Bay City, is pretty much excited at the prospect. He attended the announcement. He is nowadays driving he is nowadays test driving Chevrolet Volt which Burt Watson Chevrolet gave him to for a couple of weeks. Volt is designed to be a plug-in Hybrid variety of GM. It gives an excellent mileage as a Hybrid i.e.; 93mpg as per the United states Environmental Protection Agency. Another production target for the Bay city plant is the this year, full production of camshafts and connecting rods for the Chevrolet Cruze and the Volt models are a top priority these days.

Earlier $2 billion financial investment would contribute to creating several hundred new job opportunities around Detroit-Hamtramck plant. This management decision is projected to be a good decision intended to focus on retaining and enhancing current capabilities and also to add new ones. It would create employment on top of everything. It seems to be a very good prospect.
