Cave Homes

I just graduated as a Civil Engineer. I have always had this idea of building artificial cave homes.
Basic idea is inserting a 'cartridge' underground a lot like an RV with all the kitchen/bath/power/AC ect. Then build artificial cave living space around it. (inside can be pleasant home, mainly out side look as though its a natural cave)

My question is what are the basic issues I need to investigate? this is what I have thought of.

  • drainage
  • sealant/barrier
  • materials that will not deteriorate
  • construction methods
  • equipment needed
  • artificial rock cave? how does the zoo do it any body know? wood/chicken wire/plaster
