Car Inspired From Batmobile Developed By Indian Students Wins Destination Zero Carbon Award
When Batman rides his car-cum-weapon on his way to save Gotham City, young and old alike dream of owning it. Called the Batmobile - the super configurable car was an inspiration for the Class 12 students of Maharishi Vidya Mandir to build their own eco-friendly vehicle. And now they successfully have developed a car built entirely from renewable materials such as paper-mache, cardboard and balsa wood and have named it the 'Bat-Thrust'. The great part is that their project has won the first prize at Destination Zero Carbon, a car design and racing competition held in Singapore last month and brought home a cash prize of 500 Singapore dollars.
As we look at the features of the Bat-thrust car, Rehan shares that, “The front portion of the batmobile is sleek and aerodynamic. This was one of the motivating factors.” The car was built on a 1:20 scale. Powered by hydrogen fuel cells, the Bat-thrust combated against 98 teams from across the globe and emerged a winner. Fuel-efficiency and ‘green’ quotient were the benchmarks against which the cars were rated. Designed in about a year, in their final stages of development they used Studioworks software and used 3d-printing and laser-cutting to bring their car to reality. They attended a workshop at Robotix Learning Solutions, Chennai to prepare for the competition.
CrazyEngineers team wishes congratulations to the winners and wish them a great future as mechanical engineers making India proud.

“We felt that since the car was becoming too light, ducts were needed to offer a downward force, which we adapted from the Bugatti,” said the students who also drew inspiration from the popular sports car - Bugatti Veyrom. Other than winning the Destination Zero Carbon (DZC 2013) contest, the students also won prizes under the presentation and video clip category and also the overall trophy for being consistent in other categories - speed, efficiency and green. The video uploaded on YouTube by the team also won them the best video award. Check it out here -
