  • Most science books and health magazines suggest that a normal healthy person should drink 7-8 glasses of water every day. Some people suggest that there's something called water intoxication, where a person drinks more quantity of water than what is desired by the body.
Just wanted to know if this is true. Can you drink too much water?

Homeostasis is the mechanism by which the body regulates all functions and keeps all parameters within certain acceptable limits.
There are a group of cells in the throat which respond to water levels in the body. Normal kidney operation and sweating reduces blood volume. If I remember right when the value decreases by one or two percent these cells signal thirst asking the person to drink water. Too much water can create problems. Overworke kidney, dilution of gastric juices etc.
