ABSTRACT
The innovation relates to a method for recognizing the surface characteristics of metallurgical products. It includes designing a camera fixture for analysing the surface roughne ss of an object. The application of this camera fixture include comparing the result with the results obtained from other analysing methods like the stylus method. By comparing, more precise values can be obtained. The fixture contains two arms, one for camera and the other for lighting purpose. LEDS with differnt lights are to be used in order to capture the image under different wavelength of light. Both the camera and the light are to be at same distance from the surface. This distance can be changed according to the requirements. Servo motors are used for rotating the arms. The arms will be set in the desired angle by the servo motors based on the input and the feedback system helps us in indicating the angle the arms are in. The base plate upon which the specimen is to be mounted, is also made to rotate for capturing the object in different azimuthal angles. In this way, instructive information about metallurgical products can be determined and stored in a very short space of time such that the products can be determined in a perfectly identified manner for the reprocessing, in terms of the surface quality or surface structure thereof.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : As we were interested in the fields of robotics and metrology and thought of doing a project covering those fields. Then we got to know about the need for a camera fixture for analysing the surface roughness. This camera fixture can be used to compare with other surface analysing methods.
