He's dead, Jim.

Torrent sharing sites have been struggling with the law for a while now and this time it seems things are rather serious. With the Megaupload arrests and file-sharing sites like FileSonic withdrawing the powers vested to Internet users, btjunkie offers another setback by jumping off the wagon. This was a voluntary decision on the part of btjunkie, attached with a goodbye message for its users on the site. Disappointing! Considering it was one of the top torrent sites for the last few years but there's only so much one can do to save their real life from the virtual collapse.

Megaupload was shut down by the US Department of Justice in January 2012, charging them for breaching copyright laws. This led to a number of arrests, including that of Kim Dotcom, the founder of Megaupload. With denial of bail, the Megaupload case still rests in the hand of law, driving many sites to drop any file-sharing service that might invite a similar fate. Popular names like FileSonic, FileServe and Uploaded.to killed their file-sharing services within days of the Megaupload arrests.

Though btjunkie wasn't under any direct threat as yet and had successfully avoided any legal attention, the recent Megaupload arrests and the legal action against The Pirate Bay seem to have triggered the suicide mission. The site was not linked to any serious copyright infringement but recently was reported to the US Trade Representative (USTR) in 2011 and was marked a 'rogue' site. The owner of the site, however, still hopes for a bright future for BitTorrent sites, saying that the war is yet not over.
