BSNL or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has tied up with Pantel Technologies Private Limited and launched a new phone called the 'Bharat Phone' at a price of Rs. 1,099 in India. The Dual-SIM phone was first introduced back in November 2013 along with BSNL's two smartphones - BSNL Penta PS501 and PS650. Powered by a SC6531C processor and running on Java OS, the BSNL Bharat phone features a 3-inch TFT screen with 320 x 240 pixels resolution. Packed inside the phone is 64 MB RAM and 64 MB internal storage which is expandable up to 8 GB. There's a 1.3 megapixel pixel camera on the rear.

Deriving its power from a 1800 mAh LAN battery, the Bharat Phone offers 8 hours of talk time and 15 days standby time. Among the connectivity options, there's GPRS, Bluetooth, 2G and 3G connectivity. Not to mention, the phone brings support for stereo FM Radio with recording. The company has also offered 1200 minutes of free talk-time.

The phone also features a 3.5 mm audio jack for plugging in earphones. The BSNL Bharat phone is now available for purchase with certain e-retailers and Pantel's official website. If you are a fan of a basic feature phone among the over-crowded smartphone market, this phone might appeal to your taste. Let us know your thoughts on the new Bharat Phone in comments below.

@Satya Swaroop Dash • 09 Jun, 2014 • 1 like Is it just me or the home screen of the phone resembles the lock screen of Nokia Lumia phones with Windows Phone.
The only advantage of this phone is that you get free talktime and nothing else. If you want to be satisfied with a feature phone buy one that offers a good app ecosystem and is sturdy. The phone seems like a good deal for smartphone users who one to keep one as backup.
@Rajni Jain • 09 Jun, 2014 I second you on the opinion.

This phone is actually a freebie from BSNL.
Phone itself is costing 1099 INR and with a free talk time of 1200 minutes, Awesome !!

Phone specifications are not bad either. It has 1.3 MP camera, fair enough size of colored screen, GPRS (2G and 3G) and 1800 mAh battery. A perfect phone for the secondary / back-up options.
@Ankita Katdare • 11 Jun, 2014 A back-up phone seems like a good idea. 👍
The phone is getting a lot of views and readers. Way to go, BSNL.
@Jeffrey Arulraj • 11 Jun, 2014 A phone in Java OS seems like BSNL is still in the early days of 21st century

Well good start and about the freebies are you sure that it is for all mobile networks or between local network alone

Cos No one is going to have to many BSNL network users to talk with often
