The botnets stashing up in our PCs via the internet have repeatedly spammed us from hacked inboxes since a long time now, and looks like this spam-war shall be taken to the mobile level too. Microsoft researcher Terry Zink has solid evidence which proves that a corrupt botnet has hijacked Android powered smartphones, and has used the same to send spam mails through users' Yahoo mail accounts.

Security issues have haunted Android in the past too, but were usually restricted to Google Play, where programmes masked up as popular apps (or rather the pirate free version of paid/popular apps) worm into the Android smartphones when installed. But Zink's blog post states that it's the first time he's witnessed a spammer fabricate a botnet that resides on the Android gadgets. The IP addresses employed to dispatch the spam reportedly came from Android devices being used in Chile, Indonesia, Lebanon, Oman, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Ukraine, and Venezuela.
