Ambarish Mitra, founder and CEO of Blippar made the announcement about new app at SXSW. Blippar wants to expand the scope beyond brand-recognition to a universal visual search engine. According to Mitra, the soon-to-be-launched version of app that focuses on non-brand products would allow users to reach wide number of products with visual-search. The new Blippar app is expected to launch by mid-April. To begin with, users would be able to have a look at book covers, DVD covers, movie posters etc. written in English. When user blipps one of these items, variety of related information would be presented. For example, if a user blipps a movie poster, he/she would get information about the star cast of movie, theatres where it is currently running, options or suggestions to buy tickets from etc.

Initially, the app will be targeted for English speaking countries with a limited variety of recognisable objects. But Blippar CEO has promised to add more content for visual search from apples to puppy. To make users’ experience more enjoyable, the entire app would be driven by Blippar’s Augmented Reality engine at the back-end. Each user would get personalised results as the app uses deep learning and Artificial Intelligence. Do share your views about the new Blippar app in comments below.
