Bike That Provides You Exercise And Purified Water

We all know that bicycles are eco friendly because they have zero carbon emission and hence indirectly help in purifying the air to some extent. We also know that since these vehicles are powered manually they help us get a daily dose of the much needed exercise which keeps us fit. But did you know that there is a bicycle that can purify water and make it drinkable? I doubt that everyone is aware of this fact. Well, a company in Japan called Nippon Basic has developed and commercially introduced a purifier called “Cycloclean” which works on the energy provided by pedaling a bicycle to which it is connected. Cycloclean was first demonstrated at the environment friendly fair in Kawasaki near Tokyo.

The company is now planning for mass production and sales of this ingenious green vehicle in Bangladesh so that it can be used to provide clean water in disaster zones and war torn areas. So if you have a cycloclean equipped bike then you can stop by a river or lake, collect some water, purify it and then use that water in any way you like. The manpower of the person pedaling the bike is utilized by the cycloclean to turn the bike chain connected to a motor. Due to the movement of the chain, the motor is turned on which forces the water through a large number of filters and the end product is pure germ free water which is totally safe for drinking. The gadget is very efficient and has a capacity to purify 5 liters of water per minute. The bike has some other useful features like puncture free tires, extra cartridges which are placed in an attaché case like box containing the pump and motor.

Nippon Basic has its headquarters in Kawasaki near Tokyo. The cycloclean prototype was created back in 2005. It was sold in limited numbers in Japan. However, recently the bikes have been exported to countries like Cambodia, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, etc. The demand for these has been particularly large in under developed nations like Bangladesh so the firm has decided to start the assembly of bikes in Bangladesh also so as to reduce the cost price of the bike.

As Bangladesh’s economy is slowly improving, the number of cycle rickshaws is about to drop and will create large scale unemployment. However, this bike-water business can generate some jobs for the rickshaw pullers. Also, it can be used by people who want to make their contribution in reducing pollution and control global warming.
