Avatar Project From 2045 Initiative Aims Immortality, Feels Surreal

The 2045 Initiative, founded by Dmitry Itskov and other Russian Scientists in 2011, is a project that brings together researchers from all over the world with a common goal to achieve cybernetic immortality. In the quest to achieve their fantasy-like goal, they have undertaken some life-extension projects, among which the first one is to create a humanoid robot called “Avatar”, and a state-of-the-art brain-computer interface system. In the next phase, they will create a life support system for the human brain and connect it to the “Avatar”, while in the final phase of this project, these scientists will create an artificial brain that will breath original individual consciousness into the Avatar. The plan, as the name suggests, is to achieve all this by the year 2045.

Well, that's not it. There is another phase too - the fourth and ultimate step to create a hologram body or a body of light! Sounds absurd and unreal, but these are their actual plans. Whenever we come across anything that proposes immortality, the science folk become skeptical of the claims - Questions like what makes them think technology will develop fast enough to enable the type of advancement they envision by 2045? - start surfacing. Also come bundled with such claims are the considerations about ethical responsibilities. Should there be a system that will equal or surpass human “intelligence”? Well, you can get some answers from these people #-Link-Snipped-#.

The video below is a short presentation detailing the steps and goals of the "Avatar" project. Check it out and share with us what you feel about the initiative.
