Asus announced this Tuesday that it is bringing Ice Cream Sandwich and an unlocked bootloader for the Transformer Prime. The Transformer Prime was initially shipped with a locked bootloader but with the large number of unhappy users signing the petition on Change.org, Asus changed its mind.  A bootloader unlock tool will be provided to the users so that they can gain full access to their Android tablets. The two new features are expected to hit the market on January 12th.

An unlocker bootloader gives the users access to their ROM and gives them an option to root the tablet and install a #-Link-Snipped-# (a modified version of Android). The initial decision of a locked bootloader recieved a lot of flak from the  hacking community at #-Link-Snipped-# who called for a nuisance campaign to demand an unlocked bootloader for the Transformer Prime. Asus paid heed to the number of complaints pouring in saying that it will be developing a bootloader unlock tool but with the obligatory warning that rooting the tablet is risky and will void the Asus warranty, following in the footsteps of HTC who recently unlocked their bootloader with a similar warning to the users.

Also included in their Facebook announcement was the pleasant news that #-Link-Snipped-# for the Transformer Prime will start on January 12. In a world with minuscule number of Android devices having the Ice Cream Sandwich update, the Transformer Prime is sure to get an edge with the advantage that the new features will bring.
