ARM Cortex-M0+ Processor - The God Of Small Things!

ARM has unveiled the most efficient processor in the world with ARM Cortex-M0+. The Cortex-M0+ earns the title by delivering optimized ultra low-power, low-cost MCUs for intelligent sensors as well as smart control systems over an array of devices like home appliances, white goods, medical monitoring, metering, lighting and power and motor control devices.

With a power consumption of  9µA/MHz, which is almost one-third of what an average 8- or 16-bit processor uses, the latest addition to the line of ARM processors is derived from a low-cost 90nm LP process. Irrespective of the low energy expenditure, the Cortex-M0+ delivers high performance.

Because of the low power consumption and high performance that Cortex-M0+ processors enable, they are ideal for creation of smart, low-power, microcontrollers to realize the concept of "Internet Of Things", which is done by providing efficient communication, management and maintenance across a number of wireless devices. The 8-bit and 16-bit MCUs that are available now lack the intelligence and functionality to maximize the potential of smart applications. The ARM Cortex-M0+ will be able to drive a number of applications ranging from sensors to wirelessly analyze performance to battery-operated body sensors with a wireless connection to health monitoring equipment.

The Cortex-M0+ processor implies C friendly programmer's model and is and is binary compatible with existing Cortex-M0 processor tools and RTOS. It is supported by the ARM Cortex-M ecosystem and also has software-compatibility enabled to allow migration to high-performance Cortex-M3 and Cortex-M4 processors.

Currently, Freescale and NXP Semiconductor hold the license for the Cortex-M0+.
