tashirosgtThere are toll free numbers that one may call to get date and time information. It's about time that someone made a telephone answering machine that was capable of setting its own date and time clock automatically - or at least at the press of a single button.

Are you talking about the case where the Date & Time registers are corrupted?
This is implementable but there should be a way to utilize that voice info given on those toll free nos.Are you sure? This action cannot be undone. -

Yes, I'm talking about the case when the data and time registers are corrupted. I don't know what corrupts them on my machine. It may be a momentary loss of line current. From a consumer's point of view, it would be nice to have the date and time correct automatically, without every having to set it, even the first time you use it after taking it out of the box. I wonder if the machine could use its own phone number to determine what time zone it was in.Are you sure? This action cannot be undone. -

Your phone no. idea is a good one, but usually phones nos. in a single country fall within the same time zone & so differentiating phones on the basis of their locations(phone nos.) isn't exactly easy. And if your phone must be connected to the wall socket right?
Also even in case of outage...i think there is an inbuilt CMOS battery which maintains the data. As for troubleshooting replace that battery. Are you sure? This action cannot be undone.
