Project Abstract / Summary : Oscilloscope is an inevitable part of testing of electronic components and circuits. Commercially available CROs and digital oscilloscopes are bulky and costly. The objective of our project is to make a wireless and portable android oscilloscope. The proposed device consists of a handheld probe unit that captures the signal, processes and sends the information wirelessly to an android device. The android device will be configured (with the help of an application) to recognize and plot the waveforms and graphs. Characteristic android features like pinch zoom, clear display, etc. can be utilized to improve the oscilloscope output. Incorporating a display unit on the hand help unit so as to include multimeter features is also under consideration so that the device can replace it too. An arbitrary waveform generator may be included to improve the device capabilities. The device is intended to be a cheap portable alternative to most mainstream oscilloscopes.
Why did you choose to work on this project topic : The aim is to make a cheap portable easy to use digital sampling oscilloscope that can reduce the work overhead of circuits aspirants. An oscilloscope is an inevitable part of a circuits/ electronics engineer's curriculum. Analysis and testing of circuits involves plotting of numerous voltage waveforms, recording various component values (resistors, capacitors, etc) and generating suitable waveforms for test. Existing solutions to these features are CROs , DSOs and function generators that are bulky and costly and also multimeters. By choosing this project we intent to make a cheap solution to these requirements that is portable and easy to use. Incorporating an arbitrary waveform generator can tremendously improve testing of circuits. Besides the project will help us learn a lot of essential circuit and software aspects.
