Amazon's IoT Button Opens New Dimensions For Developers

Remember Amazon’s AWS IoT service? The facility that allows users to connect with billions of devices securely and exchange information using its cloud functionality and other associated services? Amazon recently presented its newest set of programmable dash-button devices that permit its users to plug in their third party applicationsand thus control and monitor them using cloud services of Amazon.

It will allow the developers to integrate the button with other third party applications and IoT devices and control it using simple SQL queries. The developers can integrate all the functionalities like Dynamo DB, Lambda trigger, Kinesis etc. that are available under AWS IoT.

Amazon in the past has made attempts of combining the IoT and marketing fields by introducing its dash buttons in the year of 2015. Nevertheless, with its newest launch of programmable devices, developers can utilize their service independently with ease and even can interface other IoT related devices like Arduino, Raspberry Pi etc.

The device being internet enabled provides X509 security certificates and ensures that data remains encrypted on the network. It has been made smarter as it features Lambda trigger functions and is flexible and durable with any other system. It uses MQTT protocol, which minimizes the code footprint on the device and reduces bandwidth requirements. In short, it provides limitless possibilities to the developers and they can use it the way they want.

As the device is integrated with the AWS IoT services it follows its pricing. A subscription to the AWS IoT service costs around $5 per million messages and exempts charges for using Amazon web services. According to a third party source, the total assembly will cost a developer near about $25. However compared to the other IoT services and cloud costs that are available, developers will find it more affordable.

Explaining the features of the AWS IoT services in one of his demonstrations in the year of 2015, Dr. Matt Wood demonstrated how these sort of devices powered by AWS IoT will make developer’s life easier! Take a look at his demonstration-

Not only third party applications like Twitter, Facebook but even tasks like order tracking or controlling the shows in Netflix could also be done with it. It uses WIFI connectivity and can be logically programmed using Node.js, Python and Java by the developers to suit their needs. Amazon has hosted API references and help forums also to help developers to adapt to this newest technology.
