Amazon's 3D Smartphone Is 'Different'

Jeff Bezos will announce an exciting new device on June 18 and there are no marks for guessing what it is. The company put out a new teaser (embedded below) that shows people using this new 'mystery device' and feeling quite excited about it; but the teaser does not show the device itself. We all already know that Amazon has been working on an innovative 3D smartphone that's nothing like what we've seen before. One of our earlier reports said that the Amazon Phone To Have 3D And Four Tracking Cameras! will have four tracking cameras; but we now learn that Amazon's equipping the phone with six cameras to track your head and eyes and adjust the display accordingly.

The teaser actually confirms that the interface is going to move and adjust itself to your viewing angle. The sharp eyed viewers already caught the glimpse of the phone at about 0:41 in the video; and it does look like a phone (see the 3.5mm headphone port and power button). We'll have to wait till June 18th to find out the details.

The 3D Smartphone will mark Amazon's entry into the smartphone markets. Note that the company's already made its presence felt in the tablet markets with the Kindle range of tablets. On the specs side of the phone, the rumours indicate that the phone would house a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and a 2GB RAM module.

We believe that Amazon's taking a big risk with the 3D battle. The 3D displays haven't evoked the desired response all over the world - be it the TV or smartphones like HTC EVO 3D. Unless Amazon's got something really, truly impressive; Amazon's chances of succeeding in the markets dominated by Samsung and Apple are bleak. An important aspect of the phone will be its battery life. With so many of sensors and a new display that's quite likely to drain power from battery, it'd be an engineering milestone if Amazon's phone lasts for a day.

We'll find out how it all works out in the near future. Till then, take a look at the teaser video below -

The shifting 3D display could either make or break the phone. The problem with using this many cameras to collect data is that it will be a CPU consuming process and if Amazon hasn't worked out how to take care of this then lags in the self adjusting 3D will be irritating especially while playing racing games that require the player to tilt the phone from one side to another.
