Until now, users were able to access only Linux Micro Instances for free under Free Usage Tier. âIt allows you to run Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 on an EC2 t1.micro instance for upto 750 hours per monthâ, Amazon said in an #-Link-Snipped-#. It comes with 613Mb memory and 32-bit and 64-bit platform support. After completing the 750 hours limit, users will have to pay US $0.02 per hour for Linux and US $0.03 per hour for Windows.

Free Usage Tier users can choose between different instances of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Linux. In addition, the Free Cloud Computing Services - AWS Free Tier also includes Elastic Block Storage, Amazon S3 storage and simpleDB. The EBS storage space is also boosted to 30GB and I/O requests have been doubled to 2 million. The free windows server is accessible in whole AWS region except GovCloud. This step by Amazon is going to be a problem for Microsoft as they are also trying hard to make Windows Azure service popular in market. To make it spicier, both companies have web telecasts on cloud strategies scheduled this week, Microsoft on Tuesday and Amazon on Wednesday. As competition is getting tough in Cloud Computing market, users can expect more lucrative offers from other giants too.
