Alto 800 Launched At Rs. 2.44 Lakh, Promises Mileage Of 22.74 kmpl (Petrol) & 30.46 km/kg (CNG)

India's biggest car maker, Maruti Suzuki has launched the much awaited Maruti Alto 800 at a price of Rs. 2.44 lakh (price ex-showroom, Delhi). The company says that they've received 10,000 pre-orders and expect to sell more cars by Diwali. The ex-showroom price in Delhi goes up to Rs. 3.56 lakh for the CNG LXI (top end) model. Alto has always been one of the top choice for the mileage-wanting "Kitna Deti Hai?" types. Maruti Suzuki says that the car has been developed entirely in India by a team of 200 engineers in the last 4 years. The new Alto 800 is more spacious and offers 15% more fuel efficiency than the earlier models. The company, along with its vendors invested about Rs. 470 crores to develop this car.

Alto 800 Petrol & CNG Mileage

The company has launched the new car in two variants - Petrol and CNG (compressed natural gas). The CNG basically is methane (CH4) compressed to about 1% of its volume at the standard atmospheric pressure and distributed in cylinders at 2900–3600 psi. The biggest advantage of CNG is that burning it does not produce greenhouse gases. Company promises fuel efficiency of 22.74 kilometers per liter of Petrol and 30.46 kilometers per kilogram for the CNG model. The CNG version is said to be 13% more efficient than the Alto Green, which is being phased out.

The Alto 800 has cable type gear shift mechanism which makes it very smooth to handle on the roads and especially on the highways. Detent Pin Technology (DPT) will take care of precise shifting and especially for the shift from 4th to 5th gear, there's Diagonal Shift Assist (DSA) to add comfort.  The new Alto 800 is Maruti Suzuki's answer to the Tata Nano (Recommended Reading: #-Link-Snipped-#) in the entry level car segment. Other worthy competitors are Hyundai Santro, Eon and GM's Chevrolet Spark. We've the news that the Spark has gone back to the drawing boards too and is expected to be launched with a fresh new look soon.
