AKAI TRIO: Triple SIM Phone - Who Needs It?

AKAI TRIO is Triple Sim Mobile has been recently introduced by AKAI Mobiles in India. Now that multi-SIM phones have been a rage in India, TRIO features 3 GSM SIM cards to suit your needs. The Japanese company wants to make a difference by offering the first ever phone to support three SIM cards. However, it'd be interesting to see how it performs in Indian markets as Mobile Number Portability has been recently introduced giving the subscriber the power to choose their provider while keeping their old mobile number.

AKAI TRIO features 5.1 cm (2”) TFT screen, a 1.3 MP camera, easy to use keypad, 3-GSM SIM support, GPRS, WAP with A2DP, audio & video player along with FM Radio. Given the fact that this is a low-end phone, it does not support Wi-Fi or 3G. The phone however does have torch application which can be very handy at times. One most important feature of the AKAI TRIO is that it has call forwarding option to forward the call to the active SIM, which makes call management easier. The phone also has an e-book reader, however with just a 2" screen, it won't be of much use.

The 1100 mAh battery would make the TRIO last for about 5 hours and provide 400+ hours of backup life.

Price: The latest price of TRIO is Rs. 3,295 which includes one year warranty. I believe there are better 2 SIM models available from Lava, Micromax and Lemon mobiles for the similar price. Unless you're too keen on getting a 3 SIM phone (there's nothing more impressive about it) I'd recommend looking for a dual-SIM phone. What's your take on 3 SIM mobiles?
