Airtel Launching 3G In India In Next 6-7 Days [Update: Launched In Karnataka]

Airtel will launch its 3G services in India within next 7 days, said Mr. Sanjay Kapoor, CEO of Bharti Airtel. However which circles will be the first ones to get Airtel 3G services is not known yet. The launch of Airtel 3G is much expected as its rival Tata Docomo launched 3G in late 2010. The announcement is interesting as Indian Government is putting cap on video calling services by telecom operators in India mentioning security reasons and quality of service.

Airtel has won the bidding rounds for 22 regions in India during the auctions held by the Government of India and TRAI. Airtel is the largest telecom operator in India and it was expected that Airtel will be among the first operators in India to launch the service. The pricing plans, details are yet to be announced. However we can expect them to be at part with those from BSNL and Tata Docomo.

3G services launch would help Bharti Airtel to attract more subscribers to it through Mobile Number Portability service which was launched pan India on January 20th, 2011. In India, the pricing plan will decide which telecom operator gets the most number of subscribers. Statistics showed that in Haryana - the first state to get MNP Vodafone was the overall winner.

Update: The service has been launched in Karnataka.
