If you have been following advancements in Aviation technology R&D closely, you must've read about 'Future By Airbus' program's #-Link-Snipped-# and #-Link-Snipped-# by now. Shedding more light to their developments, Airbus engineers recently revealed their plans about 'Smarter Skies' for sustainable aviation by 2050. Their ideas revolve around 5 major concepts that when introduced in the aircraftâs operation will reduce waste waste in time, waste in fuel, reduction of CO2.
The first idea is what they call eco-climb, or in other words, aircraft's takeoff from a shorter runway using a green energy powered, propelled acceleration that makes possible minimise noise and gaining maximum altitudes quicker.
[caption id="attachment_42026" align="aligncenter" width="600"]#-Link-Snipped-# Implementation of a steep âeco-climbâ during aircraft takeoff â which is included in Airbusâ Smarter Skies campaign launched in September 2012 â will alleviate congestion through greater frequency, while also reducing noise and emissions[/caption]
Next in line is the idea of 'express skyways' that will account for these aircrafts self organizing to select the most eco-friendly routes by using the prevailing weather and atmospheric conditions optimally. These engineers make sure none of the green ways are left unexplored. Then, they have designs that make sure the flights take the free-glide approach while landings and ensure reduced emissions and noise. Once landed, the ground operations will be made low-emission by switching the aircraft engines sooner and clearing the runways faster.
Last but not the least are the ideas that will help the aviation industry reduce their environmental footprints in the long run - the use of biofuels and sustainable alternative energy sources. We look forward to the updates from Airbus engineers.
