Air as a medium for communication

air is an insulating medium ,then how it helps in communication?

    Communication is by electromagnetic waves. They do not need a medium. All satellite communication is mostly through the vacuum of space.
    However sound waves do need a medium. These are longitudinal waves in contrast to the transverse electromagnetic waves above.
