Affetto Baby Robot Gets New Upper Body - You Don't Want To Cuddle It

Osaka University’s Asada Lab are on the verge of developing the most realistic infant robot ever. Called Affetto, this infant-like robot has got a new upper-body containing 12 degrees of freedom in the head, 20 pneumatic actuators to move its arms, neck, and spine. With a body weighing 3 kg (6.6 lbs) at the age of 1-2 years, Affetto would resemble a human baby in weight too. The field of research called the cognitive developmental robotics wants to study the caregiver-to-child relationship through baby robots. Take a look at the before-after images of Affetto -

Giving a boost to our understanding of NeuroScience and Developmental Psychology, the researchers will carry on with the developments in this project till 2016. Soon, Affetto will see hands attached to its arms and legs that may let it crawl? Till then, catch this video to see Affetto's movements and an unusually expression-less face -
