AeroDR - World's Lightest Wireless X-Ray System By Konica Minolta

Konica Minolta has developed a wireless digital X-Ray system. It is called the "AeroDR".  It is a cassette type radiography system that including the internal battery weighs just 2.9 kg, making it the world's lightest X-Ray system. A Cesium Iodide (CsI) scintillator, a fluorescent substance developed independently by Konica Minolta is used in this next-generation type CR device. Thus, we get high quality diagnostic images with exposure to radiation reduced almost to half as compared to conventional CR imaging. It has the ability to QC the X-Ray to determine if re-exposure is needed prior to leaving the patients side.

The cassette case is made of carbon whose strands are woven in a matrix. So, it looks rugged on the outside. The battery installed inside this system is a lithium-ion capacitor, which has a greater lifespan than the ones used in our cellphones and laptops. Its deterioration rate is next to nothing and so it lasts as long as the product carrying it. Unlike the conventional lithium batteries, this one is deep cycle battery that can be discharged and recharged for about 40,000 to 50,000 times depending on how it's used.

This lightweight product runs on Windows 7 professional operating system and has an in-built 4 GB memory. The company doesn't seem to be quite happy with this size and weight though, and plans to build the next one of quarter the size of the current product.
