Atria Convergence Technology (ACT) has pulled a 'Google Fiber' in India by launching 1Gbps Internet plan. Currently available only in Hyderabad, Bala Malladi, the CEO of ACT says the service would be made available in more cities across India in coming months. For just Rs. 5999, the plan offers 1TB of upload and equal amount of download data. Once the FUP is over, the speed will drop down to 10 Mbps, which still is better than what most ISPs offer.

Delhi is likely to be the next target for the company along with two new cities. The company has no shortage of funds and has invested over Rs. 1000 crores in the last 24 months. The company claims to have over 1.2 million customers across 11 cities where it offers services.

As of now, ACT is the only ISP in India that offers 1Gbps plan to its customers. ACT might face competition from Reliance Jio's 'Gigafiber', the service currently being beta-tested with select customers in Mumbai. ACT will have to push hard to gain market share if Jio launches their broadband service for free in the initial months.

Back in 2012, we had informed you that it's actually the 1 Gbps Internet line in Kerala's Startup Village in Kochi that enjoys the 1Gbps Internet. However, the service was not available for regular customers. There were rumors that Google Fiber was coming to India, but then innovative projects like #-Link-Snipped-# took over. The Project Look aimed to offer Internet via floating balloons.

If you are in Hyderabad and have subscribed to the 1Gbps plan from ACT, let us know your experience.
