Acer & Google Team Up To Build Chromebase For Meetings

Remember the Chromebox, a nifty little console which was made for video conferencing that was launched two years ago. Well now the concept has been put in place on an all-in-one Chromebook computer and titled Chromebase for Meetings. The product has been built by Acer and serves as a secure video-conferencing device optimised for use in small offices with up to two people. For a bigger audience you can of course use the Chromebox which came with the capability of hooking up to a larger display such as an HDTV or a projector. The Chromebase has the hardware, software and support services that serve all your video conferencing needs. First let us take a look at the hardware.

Acer Chromebase

Acer’s Chromebase for meetings has a 24-inch IPS panel Full HD (1920 x 1080) touchscreen display which is the largest screen size the Chrome OS can support. It has 178-degree wide viewing angle which means two people can easily see what is going on in the screen. For video calls, we have an adjustable HD webcam that can tilt from -5 degrees to +30 degree angles. To ensure optimum audio quality the Acer Chromebase for meetings has been hooked up with an array of four microphones and two speakers. When it comes to software, Google has increased the number of people who can use Hangouts simultaneously from 10 to 25. Thanks to Google’s platform independence people can not only join from their desktops but from their smartphones and tablets as well. The data on the Chromebase is encrypted and protected by its TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 1.2 chip.

When it comes to support services, Google charges $250 for the first year (included in the $799 price tag). The Chrome Device Management feature on the Acer Chromebase for meetings helps your IT team to troubleshoot video or audio quality and other issues not just on your device but also on the devices you are communicating as well. The Acer Chromebase for meetings will be available for sale in US, UK, Canada, Ireland and Australia from today at a price of $799 (52,857 INR).
