Indian government has allowed the 4G license holding companies to offer voice services to their customers, provided they pay an additional of $306 million. The decision by the telecom commission is likely to put a smile on Mukesh Ambani's face. who is planning to launch 4G in India this year. Reliance Industries is the only company in India to hold the nation-wide 4G airwaves.

It was expected that Reliance would disrupt the wireless broadband markets in India by being the first telecom operator in India to offer 4G. However, Airtel moved fast and began offering 4G LTE services in Kolkata, Bangalore and Pune. However, by having permission to offer voice services over 4G, Reliance may have a huge advantage in the Indian markets.

It's important to note that voice services account for about 85% of the revenues of Indian telecom operators and data consumption is still at its nascent stage with about 6% contribution to revenues.

We're setting our eyes on Reliance to offer their 4G services in India.
