  • Welcome to 2 States, a story about Krish and Ananya. They are from two different states of India, deeply in love and want to get married. Of course, their parents don’t agree. To convert their love story into a love marriage, the couple have a tough battle in front of them. For it is easy to fight and rebel, but it is much harder to convince. Will they make it? From the author of blockbusters Five Point Someone, One Night @ the Call Center and The 3 Mistakes of My Life, comes another witty tale about inter-community marriages in modern India.
Looks to me that Mr. Bhagat has started writing novels that can be easily turned into stereotype Bollywood movies.

    😡

He written 5 point some one as a novel.

When his book one night at call center made as a movie he wanted to write scripts for movies rather than novels.

3 mistakes is in the same lines.

I didnt read this book 2 states will read it once i get it.

    I read ...
    1. Five point someone: Because it was about engineers.
    2. One Night At Call Center: Because it of peer pressure. 😛
    I did not read:
    3. Three Mistakes of My Life: Because I learned from my previous two mistakes 😁

Have just finished reading 2 states. Guys, must say it is absolute pleasure reading Chetan again. He is back in form after two disasters. Next to 5 point someone, it is absolutely hillarious and fun going through the book. fast paced, no time to blink here.

Finished reading 2 states at a go yesterday...

Probably a year back I attended a seminar at MS University,Baroda, where Chetan Bhagat had promised that every page of his next book will make the reader emotionally cry, didn't find any substance of that sorts in "2 States", rather the book fails to deliver to the expectations. There is no publicity for this book. C'mon Mr. Bhagat "You too need publicity".

Too many words are spent narrating the customs and nature of Punjabi and Tamil folks which gets vapid and well-worn . Like all other books of his, '***' is an integral part yet again.

Unlike the previous 3 books the narrator is shown a little insenstive and unromantic.

Sorry to say Mr. Bhagat but it feels you haven't put your 100 % to this book.

Needless to say, Piyush did finish the book at a go.
I do agree that it doesn't make you emotionally cry, but mate, the book is witty. Its based on Chetan's own marriage he says. Personally don't believe it, but if its true, one rocking marriage it was.

I will not say it is a master piece but yes the writer has actually evolved from his earlier 3 books. Though many may not agree but this one is the best out of all the four books now available in the market. Story is very simple. I was almost smiling throughout the book. It is a story of a Punjabi Munda (boy) meeting a Tamil Ponnu (girl) in IIMA setup. We will say, what big deal in today’s scenario but then yes a couple of years ago it was for sure a big deal. The story progresses at a reasonable pace. The first phase of the book introduces the lead characters – Krish & Ananya. It begins with how they meet each other. In spite of being in one of the biggest institutions where studies are a priority, they manage to fall in love. People will love these tidbits of life. The second & third phase involves the introduction of families, their dislike of each other, their disapproval of the relationship and how Krish pataofies the Tamil Family. Each chapter is a delight to read and the familiar settings of the places makes it all the more fun to read. The fourth section of the book has the reverse act where Ananya has to ensure that everyone in Krish’s family likes her and how she manages that. The fifth section focuses on the meeting of two families. And the last section concentrates on the end, well yes a Happy End where the boy marries the girl with the approval of both the families and then they live happily ever after.
I cannot say which section of the books is most enjoyable. All sections have their own importance in their own way. The story emphasizes on the family bonding, the togetherness and yes the never ending love in the relationship. The story also dwells upon the relationship of father-son, son-mother, husband-wife, the in-laws, the typical Punjabis born and brought up in Delhi, the staunch Tamil Brahmins. Between, one even finds the touch of the spirituality in the story and a moral teaching on Forgiveness which is beautifully put in by way of interesting relationship between ex-army father and IIMA graduated son. There are some funny incidents picked from day to day life which I am sure each one of has gone through so it is easy to relate.
All said and done – the final word on the book is that it is worth picking up and makes a good read. So, please go and check it out for yourself on the shelves in bright red color.

To be honest as I was inching towards the end comparing the width of the book left to the width of the book I had read, I was feeling awfully low thinking that I will again have to wait for another year or probably more to read my favorite author's book again.

Ratnadeep, I agree with you that there is no match to Chetan's witticism and I am a big fan of his, but can one even compare "2 States" with "Five Point Someone" ?

It was diffenately a nice read for me.

After earlier two disasters Chetan looks back in form. I would not rate it better than 5 point someone. But somehow, at some places, it was no less then the oldies as well.

Awesome Indian Novel, showed the true Indian culture 😁 !!! Finished the novel in a one sitting. 6 Hours Flat !!! 😁

I will not read the book what so ever. I was pulled into 'Chetan's world' by my colegue with 'three mistakes of my life'.I dont' blame him. but these writings are not for me. I don't really have any enthusiam to commit second mistake of my life.
By the way why are we saying 'four books' ??? are we worried only about a single author? don't we have any other authors whose books are worth reading?
