Xiaomi reveals Mi6 with Snapdragon 835, 6GB RAM and iPhone 7 camera

After a lot of anticipations and rumors, Xiaomi, at an event in Beijing, has finally launched the most awaited device of the year 2017; its next flagship Mi 6. Priced at CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 23,500), it’s nothing short of the top tier devices from manufacturers like Samsung and Apple. And why not? Xiaomi was quick enough to copy the iPhone 7’s dual camera functionality in Mi 6. Not only that, Mi 6 is tightly packed with powerful hardware and specifications one can’t expect at the price point: that’s something Xiaomi has consistently delivered upon.

Its stunning 3D glass design features 4 sides of curved glass-back which is something unique to Mi 6 and is really mesmerizing. On top of it, a steel frame which took 40 different processes and 12 days to achieve the final finish! “A piece of art, precisely crafted like a designer watch” are the exact words used to define the looks during the launch event. Extra measures are taken to maintain the symmetry of the device. Sim slot and volume keys are aligned exactly. Even the antenna bands are aligned with the screen to go with the design language.

It’s hard to take eyes off the Mi 6, but moving on the device feature a 5.15-inch 1080p display with seamlessly integrated rear cameras. Brightness ranges between 600nits-1nit which ensures adequate brightness in sun light and barely any blue light in dark conditions to prevent eye strain. Not a bezel less display, but surely a super accurate and sharp one.

Coming to the processor, Mi 6 is the second smartphone (after Samsung Galaxy 8) to feature a Snapdragon 835 chipset. Its 25% faster and 35% smaller, thanks to the 10nm manufacturing process. That aside, processing load is easily handled by 6GB of RAM (DDR4X 64 bit dual-channel memory) and an Adreno 540 GPU. To handle all this heat, a battery of 3,350mAh is provided which will last a day for sure considering better efficiency of 835 SoC.

Camera setup is a combination of two 12 megapixel lenses utilized in a way much similar to iPhone 7. You get 2X optical zoom and a 10X digital zoom with high details. Mi series has a great track record in camera department and this new move takes the standard to a whole new level. Binocular imaging system, deep learning algorithm and what not to aid you in clicking crisp sharp images. Mi 6 is again the second phone in the world after S8 to feature Bluetooth 5.0. Believe me, it’s way better than 4.X series. Lastly, dual speakers are present to provide more immersive experience (top and bottom).

After all the good part, there is lack of something which might disappoint many. There is no 3.5mm jack! Give or take, 3.5mm jack has no future anyways, so I’m OK with that. The device will be available in Blue, Black and White options with ultra-reflective mirror finish. And, I hope it comes to India really fast.
