Smart Cover Can Let Anyone Use Password Protected iPad 2
After reports of Siri causing a security flaw in iPhone 4S, it seems that the Smart Cover of Apple's iPad 2 has been compromised and is posing a threat to the iPad 2's security. The security flaw of Siri was not much of a problem as iPhone 4S has settings to turn off Siri when the screen is locked. But the Smart Cover bypassing a password protected iPad 2 has raised concerns all over the world. 9to5mac.com also reports that this issue is not only specific to iOS 5 but also some earlier versions of iOS 4.3.

The security flaw can be tried in the following sequence:
1. Lock your iPad2.
2. Bring up the "swipe to turn off device" screen by holding the power button/
3. Instead of swiping close the Smart Cover.
4. Open the Smart Cover and tap Cancel.
Following the above steps lets you use the iPad 2's interface. Now before locking if you had applications open like Mail, Safari, Contacts, etc. iPad 2 lets you can use them without any concern. Apple seems to be aware of the issue and an update can be expected to appear soon, meanwhile if someone want to protected from this, try disabling the Smart Cover locking from the settings menu of iPad 2.
