Smallest Media Player Ever From Sigma Designs

In the world of the extremes and the superlatives, here we have a first look at the world's tiniest media player/streamer from Sigma Designs, the company famous for it's System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for home entertainment and control. Sigma Designs showcased a blueprint of EasyTV at CES 2012.

EasyTV is currently just a working reference design available for investors to invest in so as to push it into manufacturing. As you can see from the image above, it is slightly bigger than the AA Battery. It is a USB powered device that can receive and play content from Internet and DLNA enabled notebooks, tablets and smartphones. It is capable of transferring 1080p video received over 802.11n Wi-Fi (and Wi-Fi Direct) up through your television's HDMI cable. You can also see the Sigma's SMP867X multimedia chip processor in the image.

Interestingly, you don't need a power plug to fuel this device. There is provision for deriving it from the unused USB jack on the back of your televisions. It will be interesting to see where this thing takes off from here.
