The new avatar of India’s most popular compact sedan Swift Dzire has been unveiled on Monday by Maruti Suzuki India along with the details regarding the launch date. The launch is scheduled on 16th May 2017 and pre-booking starts from the first week of May as well. Thankfully, the company has decided to drop ‘Swift’ from the name and the 3rd generation will now be called just Maruti Suzuki Dzire indicating there are tons of improvement to make it stand in its own name.

Unlike the older versions, the new Dzire has got a complete makeover and is not a “Swift with extra boot space” anymore. To name a few, you get a fancier hexagonal grille, redesigned bumper and headlamp cluster It is considerably lighter and torsionally stiffer than older models. Reason being, it’s based on company’s new platform B which cuts 105kgs and 85kgs from diesel and petrol variant respectively. The wheelbase has been increased by 20mm along with a 40mm increment in width provided a more fitting lift to its sedan look.

A way more spacious interior welcomes you as you enter the car. Remember, it's wider and longer. A dual tone design scheme has been adopted as an upgrade and gives a premium interior feel overall. There is a new addition to a 7-inch LCD display which allows you to connect your smartphone and provides basic connectivity options.

Powertrain remains same for both petrol and diesel variants. One can choose between 1.2-liter VVT petrol engine or 1.3 DDiS diesel. That said, the new Dzire still gets AGS (Auto Gear Shift) as a feature to boast. Coming to color options, there is an entirely new Oxford Blue alongside other 5 to choose from.

Till date, 13.8 lakh units of the model has been sold in India. That shows the level of trust and popularity Dzire lineup has built in the country over past 8 years. Maruti hopes to continue the legacy by achieving a similar response from the customers for the 3rd generation as well.
