'LinkedIn Placements' To Find Jobs For Fresh Graduates - All You Want To Know

LinkedIn Placements is a new initiative by the professional network to provide a platform to help fresh graduates connect with their first employers. It turns out that the folks over at LinkedIn India had kept themselves busy discussing about campus recruitments with students, recruiters and the middlemen aka the placement officers, that you find in every college across India. They listened to the problems they face and seem to have come up with a one-stop solution for all their woes in the form of 'LinkedIn Placements'. The platform will not only cater to students seeking their first jobs but also to all the key people involved in any campus recruitment program in any college and university across India.

The unique platform has been entirely built by a local team in India that involved some 40 employees who handled everything from data science, UI/UX design, product engineering, business development and marketing. They aim to make the product achieve a massive scale impact. India is their first market and the pilot program will be run in this country itself.

How does LinkedIn Placements work?

The main objective of the platform is to help recruiters find the right talent from among millions of fresher graduates. To do this, it lets employers post about their jobs beforehand i.e. prior to making a visit to the campus. This helps them filter candidates that may not be fit for the job.

Students in respective campuses can view various job postings, keep a track of the jobs most suitable for them and apply to relevant ones. They will also receive alerts from time to time so that a good job opportunity is not missed. Students can also connect with its alumni so that they can get help from their professional network and expertise for securing their dream jobs.

Coming to the campus placement officers - Their job will be made easier by having a placement analytics portal for managing and organising all the data related to the recruitment process in one unit. This also involves the placement officer being able to see the number of job offers a student holds and they can then ensure that the future job applications meet the placement policies set by the college authorities.

The Placements platform hopes to attain both effectiveness and efficiency in the process of campus recruitments. It is designed to be used for free by all the stakeholders.

14 Colleges Signed Up For Pilot Program

LinkedIn India has got as many as 14 colleges onboard for the pilot of LinkedIn Placements initiative. The names of colleges that have already signed up include - FMS Delhi, Presidency College, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Jain University, Kristu Jayanti College, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, Welingkar College, DY Patil University, RVCE College, ITM group of Institutions, PESIT College, Mount Carmel College and MIT Institute of Design.

The Road Ahead

If the company finds positive response from both students and recruiters, it will soon be expanding its reach to multiple colleges across India, Asia and the entire globe. It is trying to solve a key problem in a very unstructured process.

Campus recruitments in India have been happening for decades with little or no change in the entire process from the students registering with the college authorities to him/her getting the final call letter. There are a lot of loopholes and if LinkedIn Placements can fill those gaps, it will have cashed in on a great opportunity.

Getting jobs to candidates and helping employers find the right talent has been a challenge for ages and with the ever-changing market needs, it has become a huge problem for all involved. There are many companies trying to solve this problem and LinkedIn stepping in only ups the competition for many.

LinkedIn Placements can thrive on its existing huge professional network that can be used for benefit by the students and employers alike. Only time will tell if it becomes the one-stop destination for all of a fresher graduates needs to secure a job.
