Kyocera Echo - First Dual TouchScreen Android Phone

The Japanese Kyocera Echo is the first android 2.2 powered dual touchscreen smartphone recently launched. The phone is first of its kind to be able to operate in normal phone and tablet mode. Echo features two 3.5" touchscreens connected by a pivot hinge which allows two screens to work in perfect sync with each other and also operate independently. It has four different modes -

1. Single Screen Mode - The phone can operate as a single phone display.

2. Simul-Task Mode - Run multiple apps (from Echo's 7 apps) independently on each of the two screens.

3. Optimized Mode - Want to have the email editor on one screen and the keypad on another? Use this mode. The two screens will complement each other.

4. Tablet Mode - The two screens will function in synch to act as a single large screen with resolution of 800x960 pixels (4.7" diagonally).

Kyocera Echo

Kyocera's Echo ships with specialized apps to make the most use of its dual independents screens. Apart from this, the phone (or tablet?) is has 5 MP camera with LED flash and digital zoom. It's capable of capturing high quality videos at 720p. Wi-Fi b/g with hotspot ability can turn this electronic device into a wireless hotspot to support up to 5 devices simultaneously.  Echo is a 3G phone ( EVDO Rev. A) which peak supported speed of 3.1 mbps and peak upload speed of 1.8 mbps. Kyocera says that the users can expect average download speeds ranging between 800 - 1.4 mbps.

It ships with 8GB microSD card and the storage capacity can be expanded to 32 GB. On the software side, web browser supports flash 10 videos, connectivity with MS Exchange, ActiveSync, PoP & IMAP. The GPS is provided by TeleNav GPS module. At heart, there's a 1Ghz snapdragon processor running to control various tasks. Other features include Bluetooth® 2.1 + EDR, accelerometer, proximity sensor, light sensor and digital compass. The phone was recently launched by Sprint.
