Google Babble To Integrate Google's Instant Chat Services

Google Babble could be the new chat service from Google that will integrate all the existing instant messaging / communication services the company offers. We've been hearing from multiple sources that the name 'Google Babble' is almost final and it will offer a single interface to Google Hangout, Google Talk, Google Drive Chat and Google Talk for Google Plus (G+). Over the last few years, Google has built a massive communication platform and as a part of it, launched several instant messaging services to add value to the products; and that gets a little confusing to end-users at times. For example, you might have experienced that when you have Google Talk desktop client or any third party chat-service running along with a Gmail browser tab & Google+ open in your browser windows - it's little confusion where exactly the next message will appear. Google Babble will solve this problem by offering a unified interface for all your instant communication needs.

Of course it'll be an engineering challenge for Googlers because integrating chat platforms that are closely tied with Google's various services won't be a quick fix. However, the move would be an important one for Google's users and Google itself as it aims to rival the popular instant messaging services from Apple (iMessage), WhatsApp, Blackberry messenger and others.

Google-Babble

It's likely that the Google Babble service will be a feature rich application with social networking abilities included, making it easier for you to share your status updates, videos and photos across Google's services.

Google's messaging and chat services have relied on the open chat platform called XMPP. However, the company has been blocking non-native XMPP requests. The experts are speculating that Google might slowly move towards building their own closed & proprietary communications platform. That might even give Google more control of the quality of the service and decide which third-party clients it will integrate with. We'd of course expect Google Babble to launch on Android and Chrom OS in the coming days.

Of course there is no official word or ETA on the service, but it'd be an interesting service to look forward to in coming days.

What do you think about Google Babble? Do you think it'll offer a strong competition to its rivals?
