Paulo Coelho or Robin Sharma; it's all dime store philosophy, without any redeeming value whatsoever. It's worse than those support groups for testicular cancer. But people seem to like simplified fortune cookie wisdom, dressed up as neo-theological claptrap thrown at them. If there ever is a book burning nearby, I would incinerate these abominations by the truckload.

Books that u must read

when it comes to engineering students then a must read book z Five point someone by chetan bhagat...which i think most of u must have read by now!!!...otherwise sidney sheldon's are u afraid of dark???...the other side of midnight in continuation wid memories of midnight are also good ones!!!😀

"The Guide To Investing" by Robert Kiyosaki . Makes you re-think. You gotta be reading it to know what I mean 😀

THe Fountain Head

Most of you have read the novel "The Fountain Head" by Ayn Rand..WHat are your views regarding that??

I found it stupendous..really I found it best among all the novels I have read till now.

Those who haven't read it yet..give it a try!!

Well, I never thouught someone could bash Paulo Coelho since his books are about 70% shorter than all the other selfhelp books. And its a very very different book.

You couldnt believe me if I told you that book can even be related to Telepathy, The paranormal, Neo-paganism and well, God!

The one by Paulo Coelho Im talking about is The Alchemist. I still have to read fauntain head, ive heard its really good.

hey dis is a nice thread but why guys have stopped postin in it....anyways its strange to hear dat no one has even mentioned stephen hawking books...brief history of time....theory of everything...etc....
and if possible do read the article abt PHILADELPHIA experiment by TESLA...a true incident....search it in google...u will find it......really outstanding...well m interested in dese sorta books....if any1 knows any other buk ...do mention...and keep alive this thread....😎

Yes, I also highly recommend Dune.. along with Lord of the Rings 😉

And, Jeffrey Archer has some nice books too, especially "As the Crow Flies"

i'd like to suggest a book too. jupiter's bones by fave kellerman. a murder mystery. amazing book. wonderfully written. one of those books which you can not stop reading once u start them.

I'm a SF fan from when I first went to a public library. I've reread a few classics, like Harrison, Niven and Asimov, I like stories about time-travel because I like to deconstruct the travel-method. Often the details are skipped and the hero or villain just steps into another time somehow.

Recent additions to my fave stack of writers who have come and gone as I buy or borrow books are China Mieville (deliciously dark alternate world with no electricity, but magic instead and parts of the world where previous civilisations got too arrogant about how to control it with consequences for that civilisation and parts of the world). Mieville uses a gothic style to discuss QM thermodynamics and alternate time-zones (magic holes in the planet), a story "The Scar" encapsulates a narrative style (3rd person) and a captive journey. The captive or protagonist has very little choice, even to return to "civilisation" is a problem for her, since New Crobuzon is very corrupt and she's on a wanted-for-questioning list by the authorities, a vast conglomerate "Mayorship" run by a dictator for life who resembles the arch corporate villain with an army of private mercenaries. All quite entertaining though and well written.

Another more serious book I'd like to recommend is "God Created The Integers", edited by S. Hawking. It starts with Euclid and goes through the 17th, 18th, 19th centuries and the 20th has Turing, Godel, and so on. Cauchy, Dedekind, Lebesgue have chapters. All the entries are in the original idiom but translated, so some of it means shifting the meanings of phrases like "in extremum" which generally means "limit" or "highest power", and so on. The last few chapters are thought-provoking and you get a chance to review original published work and think about it all by yourself, instead of because you have that lecture tomorrow,
