A quick overview of the new launches at Apple September 2023 event, including new iPhone 16, MacOS Sonoma and Apple Watch

Apple's eagerly awaited "Wonderlust" event is right around the corner, and the tech giant is expected to unveil a smorgasbord of shiny new gadgets.

Rumor has it that four new iPhones, a couple of Apple Watches, and a potential switch to USB-C charging ports are on the menu, thanks to new EU regulations. The iPhone 15 series, expected to be the star of the show, might include the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. There's also buzz about a name change for the Pro Max model to "iPhone 15 Ultra," but we'll believe it when we see it.

Screen sizes are expected to remain the same, but with the exclusive ProMotion technology reserved for the crème de la crème models.

The big plot twist?

Lightning cables could be a thing of the past as Apple might switch to USB-C ports due to European regulations.

However, the rumor mill suggests that faster USB-C data transfer speeds might be an exclusive perk for the higher-end models, while the standard ones may still be stuck in the slow lane with USB 2.0 speeds.

Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models might get a glow-up with titanium frames instead of stainless steel, making them the superhero versions of their predecessors - stronger, lighter, and more premium.

Other potential design upgrades include thinner bezels, a new Action Button replacing the mute switch, and a periscope lens exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max (or Ultra) for that extra zoom power. The iPhone 15 series is also expected to flaunt next-gen chips, with the Pro models possibly rocking a 3nm A17 Bionic chip and the standard models grooving with the A16 Bionic chip.

On the software front, iOS 17, watchOS 10, and potentially iPadOS 17 are expected to make a splash during the event. Notable features include a new StandBy mode, voicemail transcriptions, FaceTime video voicemails, and a revamped Apple Watch control scheme.

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra are also expected to make an appearance, with both models rumored to receive modest updates, including a new S9 chip based on the A15 chip.

Despite the hardware tweaks, no major design changes or new features are anticipated, except for a chic black titanium case option for the Apple Watch Ultra.

As for the AirPods, minor updates are on the horizon, with new versions of current models expected to feature USB-C charging cases instead of Lightning ones.

Other rumored changes, such as body-temperature sensors and accessibility features, are unlikely to make a debut at this event.

The event may also serve as a teaser for macOS Sonoma and the new iMac, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro models running the M3 chip, which are expected to be unveiled in October.

All in all, the "Wonderlust" event is shaping up to be a feast for tech enthusiasts, with the iPhone 15 series taking center stage.

Despite the swirling rumors and leaks, the final details will only be confirmed once Tim Cook and his team take the stage on September 12. Stay tuned for the big reveal!
