World's Largest Tesla Coils Will Unveil Lightning

Remember the very famous lightning image on Resnick Halliday's 'Fundamental Of Physics'? Every one has gone through concepts of lightning and the characteristics of the phenomenon but why does it occur is still unanswered. It's among one of the greatest discoveries yet to be made and 'Lightning Foundry' is taking a step in that direction.

Theories on lightning vary from ice particles causing the electrical discharge, to cosmic rays that constantly bombard the Earth but they are just that, theories. Though a decent amount of experiments have probed into lightning, including  a satellite study sought to prove the cosmic ray theory, a proper scientific explanation for lightning is still unavailable.

Greg Leyh, a scientist who has a large amount of experience with ground based electricity labs, has founded the 'Lightning Foundry', which is constructed of two large Tesla coils that rise to a height of 10 stories with a distance of 260-feet between them. Greg Leyh explains that a distance of more than 200 feet will make the electricity reach 'lightning-like abilities'.  The Tesla coils that are used in this experiment are resonant transformer circuit invented by the brilliant Inventor Nikola Tesla around 1891. They are used to produce high voltage, low current, high frequency alternating current electricity.

The project is under progression as a #-Link-Snipped-# that’s looking to raise $348,000 to put the necessary components together.
