    The USB 3.0 promoter group is planning to announce the new USB 3.0 power specifications. The new specs will extend the usage and capabilities of cable bus power in USB applications. Existing USB applications connectors will be able to deliver more power and co-exist with the USB battery charging 1.2 specs. The key characteristics of the new specs are as follows -
    <ul>
    [*]Compatibility with existing specs related to cables and connectors
    [*]Voltage and Current negotiations over USB power pins
    [*]Higher voltages and currents to deliver up to 100 Watt power
    [*]Source of power delivery can be switched without changing the cable direction
    [*]Work with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 battery charging specifications.

    Chairman of USB 3.0 Promoter Group, Mr. Brad Saunders says that the growing industrial adoption of USB requires that USB Bus Power to charge a wide range of electronic devices. With the new USB 3.0 specs in place, it would be possible to charge a netbook PC with USB. The power delivery specs will be made available for the industry review by the end of this year.
