Tor Project - Amazon's Cloud Computing Services To Boost "Dark Net" Speed
People associated with the #-Link-Snipped-# (also called the Onion Router Project), which maintains a secret layer so that people can access the internet anonymously, have now switched on to Amazon to add bandwidth to this service. Activists have always been using this service to remain anonymous for various wicked grounds. Amazon's cloud service will ensure that the users are not easily tracked.
#-Link-Snipped-#
Tor is called Onion router because it is multi-layered with no fixed center
Amazon's cloud service called the EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) provides virtual computer memory. The Tor developers are asking people to sign in to draw a bridge, through which all the communication would be routed. Setting up this bridge takes up just a few minutes, and the users must necessarily be subscribed to Amazon if they wish to be a part of this. Amachai Shulman, the chief technology officer of data security firm Imperva considers that cloud services can affect Tor to a great extent. Normally it would have cost you $30 (£19) a month, but a a part of a promotional campaign, the company is offering one year's worth free storage.
Tor, or the dark net, has been in the development stage since 2002 and functions by classifying the way communications are channelized over the internet from the user posting them. Data is transmitted via complex network of  bridges operated by volunteers all around the globe. When someone receives this data, it shows the details of the last sender of the relay instead of the original sender, thus adding further to the anonymity. Tor also has to deal with some hard truths, like most of its bandwidth is taken up by pirated content. Also it was used by militants in Iran and Iraq.
