The Smallest Robotic Mobile Printer Debuts On Kickstarter
A new Kickstarter campaign launched by a Jerusalem-based company named ZUtA Labs Ltd. has plans to revolutionize the process of two-dimensional printing. The 10 cm high and 300 gm heavy device is the smallest printer created till date. It can be connected to PCâs and smartphones that run on a wide range of operating systems by using the Pocket Printer app, developed by the team. The portability of the printer made it quite popular on Kickstarter, showing great potential. Let us take a look at its features.
The printer is small due to the low number of parts used in making the device. It consists of a rechargeable battery and a power switch to toggle the device on or off. Using the deviceâs Bluetooth and the Pocket Printer app, the user can send the document to the printer. With the help of the app, you can print on any size of paper. Once charged via a USB connection for three hours, the battery lasts for over an hour within which you can print around 90 A4-size pages one after the other. The inkjet of the printer, which is revealed after activating the printer, lasts for over a 1,000 printed pages.
Based on an omni-wheel system, the printer is capable of accurately navigating itself over the piece of paper. Once the printer is positioned perfectly at the top corner of the page, the desired text or image is acquired on the blank page. The first manufactured model of the printer does not include stabilizing sensors and will only print in grayscale with a minimum resolution of 96x192 dpi and a print speed of 1.2 ppm. The outer casing of the printer is made out of polycarbonate and it will come in two basic colours namely, Mars Black and Titanium White.
The pocket-sized printer, which was launched on Kickstarter yesterday, has already received over a 1,000 backers and is $20,000 away from achieving half of its $400,000 goal. At this rate, there is no stopping the company from crossing its pledge mark within the allotted time-period. Although, this is not the only company to launch a Kickstarter campaign for printers in recent months. M3D LLC launched <a href="https://www.crazyengineers.com/threads/the-micro-a-299-3d-printer-for-domestic-use-captures-attention-on-kickstarter.74300">The Micro - A $299 3D Printer For Domestic Use Captures Attention On Kickstarter</a>, a 3D printer for home-use, which crossed its pledge mark within a day. A campaign for <a href="https://www.crazyengineers.com/threads/lifeprint-a-new-way-to-print-and-share-photos-wirelessly.73977">LifePrint - A New Way To Print And Share Photos Wirelessly</a>, a wireless and portable printer, had also been launched sometime during the last month.
