Difficult to believe, huh? Even I gave the same reaction after finding this thing out. Scientists from the University of Southampton claim to have developed a control system which give the spacecrafts the ability to think. This dexterous control system was developed by Prof. Sandor Veres and his team of engineers.

[IMG]Prof. Veres says “This is the world's first publishing system of technical knowledge for machines and opens the way for engineers to publish control instructions to machines directly. As well as spacecrafts and satellites, this innovative technology is transferable to other types of autonomous vehicles, such as autonomous underwater, ground and aerial vehicles.”

This new and artificially intelligent control system has been given the name ‘sysbrain’. These software agents can read the technical documents written in special English (called System English) using the natural language programming. This system provides the satellites with advanced navigation, guidance and feedback powers. On account of this, the satellites can improvise during missions, prevent from crashing into another satellite or any object and to carry-put repairs on their own. Now, to test this newly developed system, Prof. Veres and his team have set up a fleet of satellites which are controlled by sysbrain.

Their test setup consists of a glass covered table on which visual markers and certain other things such as observation cameras and curtains are placed. So basically, this all is done to replicate the space conditions so that the spacecraft can use these as reference points so as to determine it’s orientation. On such a setup, the spacecrafts programmed to the perfection move around a pivot point resembling satellites. Each of such models has been provided with 8 propellers to control the navigation, inertia sensors and cameras so as to keep a safe distance from other objects.

The Prof. says “We have invented sysbrains to control intelligent machines. Sysbrain is a special breed of software agents with unique features such as natural language programming to create them, human-like reasoning, and most importantly they can read special English language documents in 'system English' or 'sEnglish'. Human authors of sEnglish documents can put them on the web as publications and sysbrain can read them to enhance their physical and problem solving skills. This allows engineers to write technical papers directly for sysbrain that control the machines.”

Whenever someone talks of some software or program, there are people in this world, who in no time come up with something that can cause a total failure of the same program. Hence, measures must be taken to protect the system from all sorts of possible threats. What are your views on this CEans?

Yes you can present this as your final year technical seminar. However, wouldn't it be nice if you do your own research than asking for ready made details?
