Sphero Ball - Let's Increase Our Sphere Of Influence

The sphere of technology is on the verge of a revolution. We have actually developed a spherical toy called Sphero, which acts and behaves like a remote-controlled car, and can be steered with a smartphone. This delightful sphere is to be controlled using certain apps in the smartphone, and a lot of vision and app development will be required to call this innovation the next gaming advancement. At present, it's just being tested as a cat toy.

The ball can be linked to your Android or iOS-enabled mobile devices using Bluetooth. The setup is quite simple. Once the setup is done, you'll have #-Link-Snipped-# it over and also play games like golf etc. You may also upload your scores on Sphero World, the company's social-media play. There's an array of RGB LEDs inside sphero, and can display lots of colors. Just pick one of your choice, and when you switch on this LED, all the gears remain concealed. The motion can be obtained using a simple gyroscope.

The above image shows how you can manouvre the Sphero. A small circle making up the Sphero is placed inside the larger circle. The touchscreen controller acts like a joystick, and this is what controls the ball. Now push the inner circle in any random direction, and see the ball imitate the same. The more distant the circle is from the center, the faster it will move. The speed has been categorized in three levels- cautious, comfortable and crazy. It even has a "boost" function to significantly increase the ball's speed.

Other Sphero apps worth taking a note are -

Draw n’ Drive - This allows you to draw a shape onscreen, which it will then imitate on the floor.

Voice Recognition - Yes. Even this can be used to control the ball. Will be a little tedious thing to do though.

Sphero Cam - This ball itself is not equipped with a cam, but while it's on the move, you can simply use your phone's camera to shoot videos or photographs.

Sphero Golf - Once you have set something at your place that'll imitate the hole, you can just flip the ball into it using your gestures, or you can even employ the gyroscope to swing it for you.

This device has got endless prospects in the future. With a little bit more development, it can be more than just a toy. Till then, eyes are all set on the future. And if you ask me, the future is not far away.
