Scientists At UC3M Make AR Glasses For Professors That Lets Them Know When Students Have Doubts

The professors in my college used to pause between lecture and say “Getting It, Na!” to make sure that the students are understanding the lesson being taught, but at times if a stern lecturer asked the same question timid students used to back off as they thought they thought that either they would be scolded by teachers or laughed at by students. So to make sure that professor has an idea of how many students really understand the lesson and who are having doubts, scientists at la Universidad Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) have developed a system based on augmented reality. The Augmented Lecture Feedback System works in the following way, the students can send symbols from their smartphones like question mark to let the lecturer know that they have doubts, and when the lecturer asks any question the students can send in symbols like tick or cross to let him/her know that they have an answer or not and all those symbols can be seen by the wearer of the AR glasses hovering over student’s heads. In order to obtain the overview of the performance of the students in the class the results are accumulated and displayed in form of a pie chart on the top right corner.

In addition to the above feature, the researchers from UC3M’s Grupo de Sistemas Interactivos (Interactive Systems Group) have allowed the wearer to visualize notes or comments that he/she doesn’t want to forget to mention at specific moments. Overall the system makes sure that the lecturer gets a clearer and instant feedback from the students without disrupting the lecture.

Now let’s talk about the few drawbacks in this system. For starters, the wearer or in this case your lecturer is going to look like a dork with these oversized glasses, a Google Glass implementation of this system would be highly appreciated as your teacher would look much cooler with a Google Glass. But that’s just one thing, what else is wrong with it? Let me keep this discussion open to members of CE who can post other problems associated with this AR system in the comments section below.

To obtain a clearer idea into the working of this system have a look at their report in the #-Link-Snipped-#.
